Last Penny Ever Minted In The USA

#2025 Last Lincoln Penny Minted jzebraa

 The United States ended production of the penny on Wednesday, more than two centuries since the one-cent coin first went into circulation.  The move is part of an effort to retire the country’s smallest denomination, which had cost nearly four times its value to produce.  The country’s final pennies were pressed at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, where they’ve been produced since 1793, a year after Congress authorized the Coinage Act.

The last two pennies were stamped with a special marking and will not go into circulation. According to the Associated Press, the government plans to auction them off in the future.  In a statement, the Treasury Department said that “ongoing increases in production costs and the evolution in consumer habits and technology have made its production financially untenable."  The last coin before the penny to be discontinued was the half-cent in 1857. And there could be more change to come.

50 years ago in 1975, I was in 1st grade and I cried when I found out that I was not going to get to be "George Washington" in our school play of Presidents. But the teacher pulled me aside and said I think I have a special one for you to play Lonnie because your name starts with "L" you can be "Lincoln" he is almost as important as George, if not more! When I was older I was so glad that she had pick me to be President Lincoln Our 16th President!

Born in New York City, Kirkland’s mother was a fashion editor at Vogue and Life magazine who encouraged her daughter to start modeling at age 5. Kirkland graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and studied with Philip Burton, Richard Burton’s mentor, and Lee Strasberg, the master of the Method school of acting. An early breakout was appearing in Andy Warhol’s “13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964. She appeared naked as a kidnapped rape victim in Terrence McNally’s off-Broadway “Sweet Eros.”

Kirkland acted in such films as “The Way We Were” with Barbra Streisand, “Revenge” with Kevin Costner, “Cold Feet” with Keith Carradine and Tom Waits, Ron Howard’s “EDtv,” Oliver Stone’s “JFK,” “Heatwave” with Cicely Tyson, “High Stakes” with Kathy Bates, “Bruce Almighty” with Jim Carrey and the 1991 TV movie “The Haunted,” about a family dealing with paranormal activity. She had a cameo in Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles.”

Kirkland was also known for disrobing for so many other roles and social causes that Time magazine dubbed her “the latter-day Isadora Duncan of nudothespianism.”

Kirkland volunteered for people with AIDS, cancer and heart disease, fed homeless people via the American Red Cross, participated in telethons for hospices and was an advocate for prisoners, especially young people.

Thanks for all the laughs and the movie "Anna", “The Haunted,” about a family dealing with paranormal activity. She also had a cameo in Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles” and was in "The Sting" which was filmed in St. Louis, Missouri!
