is a legendary American singer-songwriter and classically trained pianist who has significantly influenced pop music across eight decades. Born on March 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, he became a teen idol in the late 1950s and successfully reinvented his career in the mid-1970s.

Career Highlights & Musical Evolution
  • The Brill Building Era: In the late 1950s, Sedaka and his longtime collaborator Howard Greenfield were among the first songwriters signed to Aldon Music, helping create the definitive "Brill Building" sound.
  • Teen Pop Stardom: He achieved early fame with hits like "Oh! Carol" (dedicated to Carole King), "Calendar Girl," and the chart-topping "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" (1962).
  • The 1970s Comeback: After a commercial lull, Sedaka returned with a more mature pop-rock sound, producing #1 hits like "Laughter in the Rain" and "Bad Blood".
  • Classical Roots: A Juilliard-trained pianist, Sedaka later returned to his roots by composing symphonic pieces and piano concertos, such as "Manhattan Intermezzo".
Prolific Songwriting
Sedaka has written or co-written over 500 songs, many of which became hits for other major artists:
  • "Love Will Keep Us Together" (made famous by Captain & Tennille).
  • "Is This the Way to Amarillo" (a major hit for Tony Christie).
  • "Solitaire" (covered by The Carpenters).
Personal Life
  • Family: He has been married to his wife, Leba Strassberg, since 1962. They have two children, Dara and Marc, and three grandchildren.
  • Legacy: Sedaka continues to engage with fans through mini-concerts on social media and recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of his album Steppin' Out.
