A new species of prehistoric shrimp has been discovered by palaeontologists working at a fossil forest in Wrexham. The 300-million-year-old crustacean was just 5cm long (2in) and was found at a heritage site in Brymbo.
"He has a very spiky tail, a very spiky head, he's also a little bit larger than those that are previously known."
A total of 17 bum-headed Brymbo shrimps have been found so far, making the species an unofficial mascot represented in cartoons all over the site.
It is hoped the shrimp will be the first of many unique discoveries at the fossil forest.
